Entry requirements

English Requirements

Our College programs require a minimum level of English proficiency which is equivalent to Upper Intermediate Level or an IELTS score of 5.5. Students who need to improve their English skills may want to package their Sterling Business College course with an English Language course with Perth International College of English or Milner International College of English.

Academic Requirements

As a general guide, the table below provides the academic requirements to enrol in any of our courses.

Course Academic Requirement
Certificate III or below Must have completed 10 years of schooling or equivalent
Certificate IV or above Must have completed 12 years of schooling or equivalent

Exemption from Units

If you feel that you may already have skills and experience in some of the units offered, you can apply for skills recognition.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a form of assessment that acknowledges skills and knowledge gained through:

  • Formal training by industry or education
  • Work experience
  • Life experience

and measures this knowledge and experiences against the mandatory learning outcome/performance criteria in a specific unit of a course.

Skills recognition may only be given for whole units of competencies so you can only exempt from a whole unit/units of competency.

To maintain a full-time study load, international students who successfully gain skills recognition may be required to undertake alternative units.

Working while studying

As an international student you are able to work up to 20 hours per week while you are studying in Australia. During holiday breaks you can extend this to full time work.

College Orientation

There is an orientation session for international students prior to the beginning of each term. This is an opportunity for you to meet the Administration staff and to introduce you to the College and its facilities, and also to meet with other new students.

At orientation you will receive your individual, comprehensive orientation pack, information on your class timetable, student ID card, overseas student health card, and a transport concession card (Smart Rider) that gives you a discount on all train, bus and ferry fares.

  • Homestay, where you live with a local family
  • Rented accommodation, such as apartments or houses
